Dear ApCom members,

Two appointment searches have been approved by AC and the President.  ApCom needs to form the search committees related to them.  I’m emailing the committee today to ask for your suggestions for committee members that align with the requirements for each search. Please send Tanya, Sue and me your suggestions for committee members and cc: Tom Brazda. We can discuss and finalize these committees at the Jan 8 APCOM meeting (2 - 3 PM, in the Fellows Room).

Faculty search committees should include a wide representation of faculty members. Please bear this in mind as you recommend faculty to sit on the two search committees:

NOMIS Salk Fellows Search Committee:
Historically, Fellows Search Committees have been made up of 2 Co-Chairs and 6 other Salk Faculty committee members at any rank. Sue Kaech and Diana Hargreaves have offered to be Co-Chairs for this particular search. In the interest of ensuring broad faculty engagement, the Chairs of the Academic Planning Committee have asked that NOMIS faculty be on the committee, but that they not make up more than 50% of the committee.

Associate or Full Professor in Plant Biology Search Committee:
Historically, Professor Search Committees have been made up of 2 Co-Chairs and between 5-7 other Salk Faculty committee members. Assistant Professors have been on search committees for multi-rank searches in the past and APC and AC have recommended that Pallav be considered as one of the members of this committee. If there is any hesitation with an Assistant Professor being on a search committee for as Associate/Full Professor search please let us know. In the interest of ensuring broad faculty engagement, the Chairs of the Academic Planning Committee have asked that Plant Biology faculty be on the committee, but that they not make up more than 50% of the committee.

Note that Tanya and I will both be away Jan 8.  Sue has kindly agreed to serve as Chair.
